I really wanted to like this one more, but the writing wasn't great and the book didn't flow very well. It was very jumpy and the scenes felt rushed. I didn't connect with the characters, and only kept reading it because I kept waiting for some actual drama or something to happen. What was the story about...
Maura and Pierson are high school sweethearts, and breakup when he leaves to join the Marines. After 5 years Pierson comes back to the small town of Allensbury to rekindle his relationship with Maura.
Maura's parents died to two years early, and while cleaning out the storage building she finds letters from Pierson that her parents kept from her. The author runs through this scene pretty quickly. What I find odd is that she finally finds these letters after Pierson returns...um...why didn't you see them when you packed up your parents things to put in storage two years ago??
The story continues and Maura and Pierson work through his PTSD and try to get back to where they were before he left for the Marines. Again it moves pretty fast through them dating, moving into together, etc.
There are more things like this, and the story just goes too quickly. I actually like short books, and I feel like you can still write a book less than 200 pages and still feel connected to the characters and give a s*** about what happens to them. This one I couldn't really care less, and I probably wouldn't have finished, but it was so short so I figured why not.

Coming Back to You A Military Romance edition by Renea Porter Romance eBooks Reviews
I love all types of romances. This book was okay. I like how it deals with coming back from a war with all the issues and PTSD, but parts of the book seemed rushed, not very romantic and kind of boring. I only finished as I wanted to see how it ended.
I thought for a first time writer that this book was awesome, amazing and I fell in love with the book as soon as I started reading it. I got done with this book in 3 days, would have been a shorter time but people kept interrupting me. I can't say enough about this book, the love story was great, and it really helped me to understand what our soldiers go thru coming back home and having PTSD. I fell in love with Peirson and they way he just loved Maura so much and I loved how she stood beside him. It was a true love story. AWESOME JOB
Dealing with the relevant and complex issue of PTSD, this love story was a sweet but emotional read that kept it real. There was no over the top dialog or situations, I felt like I was reading a true story. Pierce's POV was my favorite! Overall the writing flowed making it an easy, enjoyable read - and some of the book was so well written, I was very impressed. This author has what it takes; I am looking forward to reading her next book!
5 amazing stars for this book. This was an amazing book, wow I was so into this book and I couldn't put it down. It has a great message in this book its about PTSD. Maura is my favorite female character, she was strong, and loving and she stuck by her man through his rough time. This book was heartbreaking when you find out about Pierson. He is also a very strong character, what he battles with is so hard. Highly recommended this book and I can't wait to read more from this author. <3
This book is about second chances and one part of the book totally reminded me of "The Notebook." To say Maura is still upset that happened to her and Pierson in the past is saying it lightly, "well, look what the cat dragged in. It's so nice to see you after all these years." Pierson is still gung-ho for his girl though, "I saw you here the other night, and tonight was about all I could handle. I don't want you dancing with anyone else." He's also possessive, "I haven't either, so what's the problem? I want to reclaim what's mine." The book deals with a serious issue and how two characters help one another get through it.
I really hate giving bad reviews but I wanted to warn others. I do appreciate what the author was trying to do but the mark was missed. Maura and Pierson fall back into their relationship way too fast and I thought the fact that her parents hid his letters was glazed over. Most of the book dialogue was quite boring which continually included how they were doing and what they were eating. I don't get keeping the accident details from Pierson that was hard to understand. A connection was missing for me I didn't feel it and it was really hard finishing this book. I don't recommend it.
What an awesome debut novel from Devon Youngblood! I love Maura and Pierson, I felt as if I knew them personally by the way that the characters were written. My heart ached for Pierson and everything that he was going through and I kind of wish Maura was just a tiny bit more understanding to that. But that's what made this book so real in it's telling because the characters didn't always behave the way that we "expected" them to. I loved that this was a realistic book about two normal people dealing with a very serious issue and working out their problems. There was nothing over the top that made you roll your eyes and say "yeah right". It was a simple, beautiful romance of lost love and two people finding their way back to each other. Can't wait to read her next book!
