So Yesterday Scott Westerfeld Books
While reading this book I was reminded a bit of Gibson's Pattern Recognition, which I really enjoyed. This is not quite in the same league but it also has a different target audience. If you're interested in fiction that explores the quirky ways in which trends emerge, grow and vanish, then you may enjoy this book. Along with a fast-paced action, the author inserts snippets of stories about trends from history--recent history and not-so-recent history. These stories collectively constitute a nice introduction to the epidemiology-based hypothesis about how cultural trends come to be.The characters are likeable and the major characters nicely detailed so you can feel some empathy/sympathy for their situation. It's also a bit of a mystery, so it's fun to try to figure out what's really happening as you read.
Of course, by the end of the book I'm dying to actually see a photo of the SHOES!! (After you read it, you'll know what I mean.)

So Yesterday Scott Westerfeld Books Reviews
Great read, my son loved it
A fast ride through consumerism and intrigue, but how much is fiction and how much is real? Read and discuss!
I love reading Scott Westerfeld novels. He is my favorite author. I like how this book makes you think twice about everything you think you know.
Interesting idea and fast paced. Lots of good similie, but other than that the writing was bland. Would like to read a YA book that didn't contain romance JUST ONCE.
This book grabbed me from the start. Very different from the Uglies series, but similar in its ability to grab attention, embrace the wonderful quirky characters and cheer for the underdog. The backdrop of this story, trends, advertising and market research are fascinating. The main character, Hunter, is full of all sorts of useless knowledge that help him solve the mystery like any good detective story you'll ever read. I am an 8th grade English teacher who read it before putting it on my own classroom library shelf and will be certain to recommend this as a fun read for my students.
So what's cool anyway?... and who sets the standard or defines it?... or more importantly who says when that said "cool" thing is SO YESTERDAY?
A fun and easy read with a trendy fashion edge and a bit of a fast paced "Adventures in Babysitting" vibe. Written in the same quirky and thought-provoking fashion as some of Westerfeld's other books; SO YESTERDAY's Industrial style stamped chapters are dripping with bizarre, yet interesting factoids, fans of PEEPS and THE LAST DAYS have come to expect.
"Like good tricksters, they let you think you've discovered chaos on your own."
What fun! An adventure-filled page turner about those cool kids who set trends....the ones we all envied back then. Beautifully paced, richly plotted story with a handful of interesting characters, and a lot of food for thought for the curious, and a certain amount of delicious snark. Who knew that what we called 'sneakers' could actually be a plot Mcguffin?
